PUDDING AND SOUSE IN BARBADOS

“Pudding and Souse” represents a popular local delicacy in Barbados. It is made with sweet potato and herbs, and served with soused pig heads and feet, along with slices of the local breadfruit. While some may think that the term “rum shop” is self-explanatory, there is so much more which can be said about these 1000+ shops scattered across the Barbados landscape where rum and other alcoholic beverages are sold.

For starters, rum shops offer several soft drinks ranging from Sprite, Coke, Frutee etc for those who may not value the consumption of alcohol. To complement the beverages, rum shops across Barbados have become famous for serving customers (both locals and tourists) a variety of local delicacies; ranging from Pudding and Souse, Cou Cou and Saltfish, Fishcakes, and Fried Porkchops. One such local rum shop known for this is Braddie’s Bar located on the outskirts of St. Lawrence Gap in Bath Village, Dover, Christ Church, Barbados.
